Our vacation house on Koh Phangan was designed to be as efficient with space as possible while still providing a feeling of openness and comfort. A central entry area with a daybed and desk gives the house a sense of arrival while providing flexible-use space (the “study” can be closed off with folding shutters and doors to be used as an additional single bedroom for a child). To the right of the entry are the upper bedroom and bathroom. As you turn left and progress down three steps into the open plan living area, the views open dramatically across the deck, through the trees and out to the sea. The living area connects directly to shaded outdoor deck areas through nearly 6m of folding glazed doors, allowing for a seamless flow between indoor and outdoor spaces. A staircase leads from the deck to a separate lower bedroom with ensuite bathroom (*the second bedroom is currently not available for renters).
The house was designed to maintain privacy while taking advantage of the views afforded by Hin Ngam, the hill on which the house is built. During construction, as much of the existing vegetation as possible was maintained. Established trees and shrubs screen the views to and from the adjacent properties, provide shade for the house, and help the house to feel as though it’s perched in the canopy of the surrounding tropical forest. Privacy screens and window placement enhance the overall feeling of seclusion while framing views to different parts of the property and beyond. Selective trimming of the trees on the property has opened up views across Chaloklam Bay and out to the open sea – views which can be enjoyed from the deck and from every room.
Both bedrooms are air conditioned, and the upper bedroom and living area have ceiling fans. The vacation house also has the following amenities:
